Description

We are looking for someone to work as a School Sports Coach Apprentice who will work full time in school, assisting the School Sports and Creative Performance Team with the delivery of school sport, performance and physical activity. This involves coaching, including planning and delivering sport, performance and physical activity sessions before, during and after school.

Purpose of post.

  • To assist and deliver quality provision of school sport, performance and physical activity to all pupils across the school and extended school curriculum.
  • To work in all areas of the school as directed by the Headteacher and Line Manager.
  • To ensure that all pupils and staff receive high quality support as directed by the Headteacher, Sports instructor, teachers and teaching assistants. 


Duties and responsibilities.

  • To support PPA colleagues and timetable.
  • To support cross curricular programme.
  • To provide SEND support as deemed appropriate by Line Manager & Headteacher.
  • To support Gym Trail.
  • To support pupils and staff at wraparound care, both before and after school.
  • To support intervention programmes as deemed appropriate by Headteacher.
  • To work alongside Teaching Assistant colleagues in a classroom assistant capacity.
  • To update school website in conjunction with ICT Technician.
  • To promote an awareness of healthy lifestyles to all pupils.
  • To support in the running and organising of PD Day holiday clubs.
  • To support the new National Curriculum’s ‘personal bests’ delivery in conjunction with Sports Instructor.
  • As and where appropriate, to be involved in aspects of mentoring for pupils.
  • To update general and sports displays.
  • To liaise with External Sports Providers where needed.

Key requirements.

  • Good levels of personal fitness.
  • Secure knowledge of health and safety and safeguarding practices.
  • IT literacy.
  • Ability to take initiative.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • GCSE at grade 4 or above in Maths and English
  • Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in related field

Working hours.

  • 40 weeks per year – school term time (38 weeks) plus extra training days (5 days) and Professional Development days (5 days).
  • May include holiday clubs.
  • Will include assisting at Wraparound Care sessions with session start times of 7:30 a.m. and end time of 6 p.m.  These will be timetabled with you.
  • 8am to 4pm, but may vary to accommodate planned events (7 hours per day x 5 days per week, 1 hour unpaid lunch)
  • Salary is paid in 12 equal monthly payments
  • Holiday entitlement is paid as part of the salary, we would expect the Apprentice to take holidays outside of term time and the training/professional development days.
