MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION
Working closely with SCL’s Head of Academies, Curriculum Managers and Teachers, the Academy Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Football (sports enrichment) programme as well as the Academy Coaches positioned at their site.
They will drive learner recruitment and ensure the sporting quality of their site. In addition, the Academy Manager will have an active role in supporting SCL Teachers to deliver exceptional teaching, learning and assessment, which maximises learner progress and enhances each learner’s opportunity to achieve a positive destination.
They will help bridge the gap between sporting and classroom achievement, ensuring an exceptional learner experience for all.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Lead the Football (sports enrichment) Programme
- Manage all aspects to ensure delivery of an ‘outstanding’ Football (sports enrichment) programme in line with the Academy philosophy.
- Lead the day-to-day management and associated activity of all Academy coaches, ensuring high performance and productivity levels are maintained and targets are met.
- To regularly monitor and review the Academy coaching syllabus, its delivery and effectiveness within your site and implement strategies to ensure the quality is ‘outstanding’.
- Effectively manage a competitive games programme (including related admin tasks) to ensure opportunity and engagement for all.
- Ensure all Academy (and Coach) admin is completed accurately and on time.
- Working closely with the Academy staff and SCL team, take the lead for learner recruitment activity including open training days, parents’ evenings, school engagement events, marketing, team sessions etc. to ensure the site achieves required post census learner numbers (following SCL recruitment policies and processes).
- Work with the SCL Quality Improvement Team to ensure Academy site is prepared for any inspections from our Lead Providers, External Compliance Auditors and/or OFSTED.
- Manage the Health and Safety of the site and all activities.
- Ensure the site is operationally sound, resourced and functional as per contract requirements.
- Control and keep to expenditure budget and make cost savings where appropriate.
- Collate, analyse, and report on KPI’s, ensuring targets are achieved.
- Ensure contract agreements are honoured.
- Cover training sessions in the absence of a coach and report any absences.
Supporting the Quality of Education
- Support Curriculum Managers, Teachers and Education Staff to ensure high levels of engagement and achievement in the classroom.
- Develop and design sport focused strategies to maximise learner participation in all components of their education programme.
- Work with the Education team throughout the Onboarding process (Learner interviews, engagement and course enrolment)
- Communicate with the Teacher and Curriculum manager to identify “At Risk” or underperforming learners and support their educational engagement using sport as the vehicle.
- Support the teacher with learner performance management activity.
- Support in forging relationships within the community / region with organisations to provide meaningful work experience placements and destinations.
- When required, facilitate education / study programme lessons to ensure continuity of delivery and learner experience.
General
- Meet with the ‘Head of Academies’ on a regular basis, ensuring operational performance is monitored, supported, and where necessary improved.
- To manage personal development in line with agreed annual performance objectives and participate in internal training as part of continuing professional development (CPD).
- Adhere to compliance requirements of funding bodies & Lead Providers.
- Ensure an effective culture of safeguarding that enables staff to: identify, help and protect learners who may need early help or who are at risk of neglect, abuse, grooming, exploitation, radicalisation or extremism; help learners to reduce their risk of harm by securing the support they need.
- Ensure that all company policies are implemented consistently and fairly.
- Ensure all external marketing material meets SCL brand guidelines as set out by the SCL Marketing department.
- With support, ensure that all learners, including those with SEND and high needs, and disadvantaged learners, get the information, advice, guidance, and support to achieve their next steps and progress to positive destinations.
- Conduct such other duties as the management may from time to time reasonably require.
